Every meaningful idea has a story behind it. Misheveve began with a childhood memory, but it grew into a bigger vision: to use simple technology to help farmers showcase what they produce and connect with opportunities beyond their immediate communities.
My name is Keith Wanjala, Founder and CEO of Misheveve. I am a finalist in Information Science, majoring in Communication and IT at Moi University. Long before my academic journey and my ambitions in technology and entrepreneurship, I was a young boy growing up in Western Kenya, where I learned some of life’s most important lessons — humility, resilience, hard work, discipline and making the most of what we had.
One of the foods that formed part of my childhood was misheveve — pumpkin leaves. It was simple, affordable and available to families like mine. During difficult times, it was more than just a vegetable. It represented resourcefulness, resilience and the ability to find value in what was already around us.
Years later, as I became more interested in technology, communication and entrepreneurship, I began looking at agriculture differently. I saw farmers producing valuable food and agricultural products, yet many still struggle to reach wider markets, find buyers and make their products visible beyond their local surroundings.
That connection between where I came from, what I experienced and what technology can make possible became the inspiration for Misheveve.
Misheveve is built to help farmers be seen, help their products be found and make it easier for farmers and buyers to connect.
Farmers can showcase what they grow, raise and sell — from fresh produce and grains to livestock, poultry, eggs, seeds, processed products and farm inputs. Buyers can search for products and connect directly with farmers and agricultural producers.
The idea is intentionally simple. Technology should not make life harder for the people it is meant to serve. Many farmers have valuable products and knowledge but may have limited experience with digital tools. Misheveve is therefore being built around a straightforward experience that makes it easier to participate, showcase products and connect with potential markets.
Digital agriculture can help reduce information gaps and improve connections between farmers and markets. The World Bank identifies digital platforms and other digital tools as important ways of helping smallholder farmers access markets, information and opportunities, while also emphasizing the need for solutions that are affordable, locally relevant and inclusive.
Misheveve is not simply about putting products online. It is about creating visibility and opportunity for the people behind those products.
We believe a farmer should be able to say, “This is what I have,” and have a simple way of putting that product in front of people who may need it.
Whether it is a farmer selling vegetables, a poultry keeper with chickens ready for sale, a breeder offering livestock, a nursery producing seedlings, or a producer selling processed agricultural products, Misheveve aims to create a common digital space where these opportunities can be presented and discovered.
Our ambition is particularly focused on making digital participation accessible to small and emerging farmers — because innovation should not only serve those who already have resources, technology and strong market connections.
Misheveve is rooted in Kenya, and its story begins with my own experience growing up in Western Kenya.
But the challenge of connecting farmers to markets is not unique to one community or one country. Across Africa and other developing regions, farmers play a central role in food systems and livelihoods, yet many continue to face barriers to markets, information, technology and other services.
Our starting point is therefore local: understand the Kenyan farmer, build around real needs, learn from the community and create something useful.
With time, the vision is to grow beyond Kenya and adapt the platform to other agricultural communities across Africa and eventually beyond.
For me, Misheveve is more than a business idea.
It is a reflection of where I come from, the challenges I witnessed growing up, the lessons my parents taught me and the opportunities I believe technology can create.
A simple vegetable from my childhood became a reminder that value can exist in the most ordinary things — sometimes it simply needs the opportunity to be seen.
That is the spirit behind Misheveve.
A childhood memory became an idea.
The idea became a purpose.
And the purpose is to create more opportunity for farmers.
Where Farmers Meet Opportunity.
